  Why do the JWs have such an aversion to philosophy?

  i mean, they seem to avoid it like the plague.

  i know people will say that they only need the bible to guide them in life...etc...but i contend that you cannot simply read the bible by yourself; at least without knowing where the philosophical principles contained within the bible come from.

  is this aversion of confusing philosophy with faith way over the head of most jws?

  JWs are taught that "the wisdom of the world is foolishness with God"

  1 Corinthians 3:19 - For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God For it is written, "He is THE ONE WHO CATCHES THE WISE IN THEIR CRAFTINESS"

  This causes them to erroneously conclude that the FOOLISHNESS OF THE WORLD is WISDOM, and so they eagerly embrace all manner of nonsense and eschew the perfecting of their cognitive faculties. After all, they wouldn't want their god to think they were fools, would they?

  A Dub True Believer, the photograph proves nothing. MAYBE those are chocolate eggcreams. MAYBE it's Ovaltine - who can tell from the photo? There is no liquor bottle in sight.

  WE know the truth, and the truth has set us free. JFR was a lush, especially in his later years, as his prophecies and his god continued to fail him.

  I need a show of hands: who believes the Bible and to what extent?

  i'll start off.. i don't believe anything is divine about bible writings.

  i believe there may be some marginal history although not much.

  i think alot of folk tales and regional myths are contained in the old testament.

  I believe it exists, because I've seen several. I've even owned a few.

  It is a piece of literature, the product of a collection of primitive men, all of whom were LIARS.

  I doubt that much of it is literally true or that many of the characters appearing within the covers were real or, if they were real, presented honestly.

  That's what I think.

  it s often not imaginable for me, to think that single jws live a life of abstinence.

  i mean at the end of the day we are all humans with desires and wishes.

  most singles are not trained to be like monks from tibet or stuff.. so what s the secret behind it?
